Last night I went to see Dan le Sac vs Scroobius Pip. It was the first gig I've been to totally on my own and I surprisingly didn't feel too awkward or lonely.
The support act was this guy who calls himself Kid Carpet and I'm still not sure if I liked him or not. He had a lot of energy and jumped around a lot but his lyrics were a bit juvenile. He played a keyboard like the one I had for my 7th birthday which made me laugh and he did an awful cover of a Tom Jones song. Maybe he's one of those artists that you have to listen to a few times before you "get it".
Dan le sac vs Scroobius Pip were ace! Just as good as I thought they'd be. Predictably everyone jumped about like lunatics for "Thou shalt always kill" (including me!). They did two cover versions: "Push the button" by the Sugababes which was interesting to say the least and "Nite Klub" by The Specials which they got Kid Carpet back on stage for. They were actually really funny and witty, going on about how us students are going to be shocked when we get out in the real world and there's no rubbers and that the police wont be as nice to us- cops and rubbers!
I was supposed to go and meet a friend for a drink afterwards, but he decided he wanted to go to a pub that's about 20 minutes walk from me and after being hassled by 2 groups of guys on the way there, I decided to go home instead. He was with his new girlfriend anyway so it would have been all weird.
Today, I woke up to an empty house as all the girlies are at home for the weekend. I had a blueberry muffin for breakfast because I am a naughty scamp then went for a stroll into town. I am in desperate need of some new clothes as I am bored of everything in my wardrobe, but alas, it was not to be. Everything I tried on didn't fit right or looked horrible, so I just gave up and went to the library instead. I spent ages in the CD section but couldn't decide what to take out so I just left it but I did get out 2 books, not that I really have time to read anything but text books now.
I checked out Cow, the new vintage shop in town. I have to say, I was quite impressed with their prices but I couldn't be bothered to try anything on so I left empty-handed. Maybe if I get any birthday money I'll go back and have a proper look.
Right now I'm listening to Los Campesinos and wondering whether to crack open the old Biopsychology text book or to keep today work free and then be fresh and relaxed to knuckle down tomorrow. Oh the decisions!

Let the sunshine in
I'm pretty sure I saw a transvestite on the way home from my lecture today. He/she didn't look very convincing because I'm not sure he/she was convinced him/herself, that they were even supposed to be wearing women's clothing. I think transvestitism may be fairly new to them. It could however have been a 'plain' looking girl and in which case, I'm sorry karma.
I was speaking to a girl earlier whose friend had died (a year ago to the day) and she told me that she and another girl were going into the Peak District today to commemorate their friend by drinking Tequila on a hillside. I think that's a great way to be remembered and wouldn't mind if anyone did the same for me when I'm gone. Life should be celebrated!
After saying a couple of weeks ago that work wasn't too bad, I have quit my job. Last Saturday I had to get up at 5.45 am to walk 20 minutes into town to catch a bus to a client's house, then I was expected to be at another client's house 45 minutes away at least in the space of 10 minutes which is quite clearly impossible since I am not Wonder Woman! I was then called moments after I had finished my shift to pick up 2 morning calls which had been missed despite the fact it was after 1pm. I didn't feel well anyway and being puked on earlier in the day did not help (I am phobic), so when I got home I called the office to tell them that I couldn't finish my calls. There was a minor altercation which ended with me saying "Well I was planning on handing in my notice anyway" and whoever it was I was talking to slamming the phone down. Was I fired or did I resign? To be honest I don't care. I am freeeeee!!! I wrote them a detailed letter explaining why I didn't want to work for them anymore and went to hand in my uniform yesterday...without washing it. Small victories! I am now unemployed but it's better than being stressed out.
I am currently wondering if my taste in hosiery is really that terrible since when I walked into the kitchen wearing my flower print black tights, Sophie greeted me with the question "Oh God, what are they?" I love these tights and I wont stop wearing them for no-one!

Another day, another dollar
I had an 11am lecture with one of my favourite lecturers from last semester this morning. I don't know why, but his sense of humour really tickles me. He's understated funny rather than out and out hilarious. He teaches us about cognitive psychology which is one of the more interesting modules I'm taking this term. I've got him again tomorrow morning so that's something to look forward to.
I finally returned to work today and it wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be. I did a 45 minute cleaning call for a nice gentlemen who gave me lots of food, and then 6 tea calls. I swear the elderly want me to be obese the amount of food they palm off on me. Mars Bar man didn't give me a Mars Bar today which makes a change. On the way home, I almost got run over by a bicycle. The tyre literally touched my leg! The guy on the bike was pretty freaked and he let out this crazy squeaky noise! He did not apologise however, but maybe I was in the wrong.
We still haven't got the heating to work and so it's freezing. I'm fed up of being chilly Willy! Hopefully we'll get it working tomorrow or I will be forced to go and sit under a hand dryer in a public toilet all day.
I just read in Heat magazine that Natalie Portman and Devendra Banhart have split up. I was not even aware that they were together. I can't quite picture them as a couple. Seems that they couldn't either!
Might go to the pub soon, but I'm not sure if I can be bothered. The cold makes me lethargic!

My, oh my, what a wonderful day!
I will begin by telling you the story of an embarrassing incident which occurred to me on Monday night. I should probably mention that a lot of embarrassing things tend to happen to me, so this will not be a one-off report. Get used to it- I have!
I'll set the scene: We were crossing the road in front of Tesco Express after sharing a couple of pitchers of Woo Woo at the Cavendish. It was a rainy evening and hence the ground was wet. I did my typical little leap on to the curb and suddenly, I was on the floor. My stupid Primark shoes have no grip and so before I could do anything about it, I skidded on the pavement landing with a thud (quite painfully might I add) on one bum cheek. I sat on the ground for a couple of moments in stunned silence listening to people laughing at me. Not only that but everyone in Tesco's turned round to stare too! The irony is, I wasn't even remotely drunk and people probably thought I was off my tits! Still, later on in Embrace that night I found £5 so it's swings and roundabouts really. My bottom is quite sore though. The moral of the story kids is don't wear shitty shoes in wet weather. You will cause yourself an injury!
It is raining again today and as I have learnt my lesson I am wearing sensible footwear (but not in a euphemistic lesbian way). I had another 9am lecture this morning and it was torture having to get up so early. I don't know how normal people with 9-5 jobs and other responsibilities do it. I used to be really good at getting up on time, but as I've got older, I've lost the knack. My bed doesn't want to let me go!
I went to check out Pippa's house after spending a very dull hour listening to our lecturer droning on quite unenthusiastically about child development. To start with I thought he was South African, but then I tuned in to his accent and realised he was actually French. Oops!
At 11am, we had Mac lab class and Pippa and I managed to meddle our way through the work sheet leaving out bits we couldn't do ("I'm sure that's not important"). Maybe that's why we finished early?
At 12pm, we had an academic tutorial. My tutor seems really nice even though I remember doing a nasty experiment about social anxiety for him in the first semester. Found out that we have an oral presentation to prepare for next week about any journal article which interests us. How I love making presentations...NOT! Luckily, it's only in front of a small group but even so. I'm undecided as to what topic I will pick as "anything" is a rather wide scope. This will take some careful consideration!
Went to the Fresher's Fair after the tutorial and was quite disappointed I have to say. Last year, we got free baked beans, beef jerky (the perfect vegetarian treat) tinned steak and kidney pudding (ditto), posters and loads of free Nivea samples. This year, there was a distinct lack of goodies and so I came away with a T shirt which I only got because it hit me on the head (the guy throwing them should do shot put!) and a wooden spatula. Not a great harvest considering students love to skank free stuff even if it is shite!
Finally got back in touch with work today after almost 3 months. I am doing lunches and teas tomorrow and they're going to call me later with a schedule (I won't hold my breath!). Not really looking forward to returning but it's got to be done at some point. I bet they put me on a walking round in the pouring rain as revenge!
See you later alligators x
